Why people come in

Is pain or discomfort getting in the way?

Most people book a chiropractic visit because something in their body isn't working the way it used to — an ache that keeps returning, stiffness that limits movement, or discomfort that makes work, training or sleep harder than it should be.

Chiropractic care looks at the relationship between your spine and your nervous system. The first step is always a proper assessment, so you can understand what's going on before deciding what to do next.

  • Low back discomfort
  • Neck discomfort
  • Headaches
  • Restricted or stiff movement
  • Recurring or long-standing complaints
  • Nerve-related discomfort

Gonstead chiropractic

A thorough, specific approach to chiropractic care

Mt Hawthorn Chiropractic Clinic uses the Gonstead System of Chiropractic.

There are many different techniques within chiropractic. Gonstead is one of the most assessment-driven. Instead of adjusting wherever you feel sore, the aim is to work out which specific area is actually causing the problem — because where it hurts is often not where the issue is.

That's why a complete assessment is carried out every visit, and why care is kept as specific as possible.

Listening first

Your visit starts with a conversation — your story, your health history and what you'd like to get back to doing.

A detailed examination

The Gonstead examination uses a range of hands-on skills to assess your spine and nervous system, rather than only looking at where it hurts.

Nervoscope assessment

The nervoscope is a Gonstead instrument that detects heat associated with inflammation from nerve irritation, helping guide the assessment.

X-rays when clinically indicated

Where appropriate for your circumstances, full-spine imaging can add detail to the analysis. Imaging is only ever recommended when it's clinically warranted for you.

What happens when you book?

Knowing what to expect can make your first chiropractic visit much easier. Our process runs across two visits — assessment first, then findings and your first adjustment.

  1. 01

    Welcome

Our team greets you and checks that your new patient forms are complete. You'll also watch a short new patient video before your consultation.

  2. 02

    Initial consultation

Dr Scott listens to your story — what's going on, your history and your goals — then explains how, where and why chiropractic may be able to help.

  3. 03

    Gonstead assessment

A full Gonstead examination is performed, including nervoscope assessment, to analyse your spine and nervous system.

  4. 04

    Further investigation if required

If imaging is clinically appropriate, X-rays may be recommended so the analysis can be more complete.

  5. 05

    Findings & next steps

On your report of findings visit we bring the examination and imaging findings together with your goals, discuss what we've found and outline the recommended next steps, including estimated time frames.

Meet your Mt Hawthorn chiropractor

Dr Scott Campbell-Lloyd (Chiropractor)

Dr Scott leads the team at Mt Hawthorn Chiropractic Clinic, a practice that has been looking after Mt Hawthorn and Perth residents since 1968.

His starting point is simple: a healthy spine supports a healthy nervous system, which supports a healthier body. He works with the physical, mental and chemical stresses that build up in day-to-day life, rather than looking at one sore spot in isolation.

Gonstead is his approach of choice because it's specific and assessment-led — find the problem, be clear about it, address that area and give the body time to respond.

As a patient, you can expect to be listened to first. Dr Scott takes time to hear your story and explain what he finds in plain language, so you can make an informed decision about your next steps. Patients of all ages are welcome, from children through to young professionals and whole families.
